Heat Pump Warranty Repair in Maccan, Nova Scotia
A faulty sensor shut down a new ductless system in its first week. Here's how we found it and put it right in one visit.
What happened
In August 2026 we installed a single-zone ductless heat pump in a home in Maccan. One outdoor unit, one indoor head on the living room wall.
Five days later the homeowner called. In cooling mode, the system would start, run for about a minute, and then the outdoor unit would shut off.
What our technician checked
The most common cause of that symptom is low refrigerant, so he checked that first. He weighed the charge against what the system should hold. It was correct.
That ruled out refrigerant and pointed to a faulty sensor on the outdoor unit. When a sensor reads wrong, the system thinks something is wrong and shuts itself down to protect itself. It was a defect in the part, not a problem with the install.
How it was fixed
He came back the next day with a new outdoor unit, plus a spare indoor unit in case it was needed. He swapped the outdoor unit and tested the system in both heating and cooling before he left.

This TRALO install came with 10 years parts, 10 years labour and 10 years full replacement. This repair was covered.
About the install
There wasn't enough exposed foundation for wall brackets, so the outdoor unit sits on a snow stand. Raised up, it also stays clear of the snow in winter.
The electrical panel was at the far back corner of the house, about 70 to 80 feet from the outdoor unit. We planned that run at the sales visit.
